While there are a lot of DIY lace bralette tutorials floating around, this one is my personal favorite because it’s the easiest, fastest, and takes absolutely no sewing skills whatsoever.

I’ll be honest. I’ve been so excited about everything else going on in my life, I haven’t thought twice about the actual Valentine’s Day….. which just happens to be in just a few days. Yikes.

OK, that’s not entirely true. I woke up several mornings ago with a vision of what I wanted to wear but the bad news is, nobody has made it yet. I have a love/hate relationship with this scenario. The closest thing to my vision was a Free People bralette for over $60 and an exhausting trip downtown with the kiddos. I’ll pass.

So, in less time than it would have taken to go lingerie shopping, I whipped this sexy little number up. It really took less than a half hour! There is no pattern. Just use your own body and create a look that’s all your own and fits you perfectly. 🙂 Here’s how I did it so you can make your own too:

Supplies:

I started with some Stretch Lace Fabric, these Bra Inserts and Black Elastic. (I’ll add the inserts in later, when I want this to be more of a bra and not so much lingerie.)

I used a thin 1/4″ black elastic for everything else.

The Process:

Cut your lace into an 8″ strip long enough to drape over one boob, around your neck, and hang over the other one.

You can do this step on yourself in a mirror, but I used a dress form in my size. It makes it easier and keeps naked photos of me off the internet. 🙂

Cut a strip of elastic long enough to comfortably wrap around your ribs under your boobs. Sew/ Knot it and place it over your fabric in place. Pin everything into place.

Your bra should look like this from the back:

Now the fun part!

Use your imagination to tie other elastic strips to your liking. Knot them to the elastic that runs around your ribs. I used 3 strips in different lengths to create an interesting look from the back. I plan on wearing it with my backless shirts this summer.

Tie regular knots to keep them in place. It’s easier than sewing each one with such thin elastic.

Once you are happy with the design of the back, cut the excess elastic off to make the knots look more uniform.

Now to sew your fabric into place on your elastic, either use a basic zig zag stitch or a twin needle on a basic sewing machine. A standard stitch will pop as soon as you stretch it to put it on.

Ta Da! Your done. Now go celebrate with some chilled champagne and strawberries in your new sexy bralette. Happy Valentine’s Day.

  1. Thanks for the inspiration! I’ve been on the side of wearing bralettes as a happy medium between wear bras and going completely braless since bras have been proven to be detrimental to women’s health. This one is super easy, cheap, and fits my bust size, unlike most bralettes and bralette patterns out there. Thanks!
