Believe it or not, this awesome DIY Bandeau Bikini is soooo easy to make! Plus, it will make you feel like a million bucks on your next vacation! The stretchy fabric is easy to work with and incredibly comfortable. That’s a total win-win.
When I first showed you guys this tutorial, it was awesome to see how you re-invented it. One reader made it from stretch lace for some quick and easy lingerie, another added a strap to create a halter top. Often, the best part of making your own clothes is how much freedom you get in creating exactly what you like. When you have complete creative freedom, it can be so liberating to see what you come up with!

This DIY is perfect for the beginner and only takes about 30 minutes to complete.
DIY Bandeau Bikini Steps:
Start by cutting your fabric into 6″ strips lengthwise (hot dog style)
Fold the strips lengthwise again and pin along the long edge. Sew shut with a zig-zag stitch and turn inside out to create two long tubes of fabric.
Once you have two tubes complete, fold them each in half to find the middle and cross them over each other to look like this:
Bring all 4 short edges together and wrap around your chest. Decide how long your strips need to be and pin into place. Sew along the pins to create a complete circle with a decorative knot in the center front.
Your last and final step is to take the sections of your bandeau bikini that open when you slip them over your chest and sew them shut. You should have two 3″ tubes to cover each boob but by sewing the edges together, create a uniform 6″ wide strip. I used the same zig zag stitch to keep them closed so you don’t have any wardrobe malfunctions. 🙂
Now slide your bandeau bikini over your head to wear. It should fit snug and have just the right amount of stretch to be comfortable yet still supportive.
Feel free to experiment with different colors and prints to create totally unique bikini combinations that are all your own. That’s the fun of DIY right?
