Good morning ladies! Today, we’re going to be making this super- cute, super simple DIY kimono. It’s even easier to make than my long, boho DIY kimono from a few months ago, and a lot faster to whip up. Depending on the fabric you choose, this could be as quick as a ten minute project!
I love the versatility of a good kimono. They are the greatest thing to throw over a basic tank and jeans and suddenly, you’re more put together. Really though, have you ever seen a girl wearing a kimono and thought, “wow, she looks terrible?” A DIY kimono is also one of the most versatile things you’ll bring on a beach vacation. You could literally wear it to the airport, on the beach as a swimsuit cover-up (see my other swimsuit cover-ups here) and then over a casual outfit when you’re out and about.

Make A DIY Kimono In 3 Simple Steps
This project is seriously the easiest thing! I almost feel silly even writing a tutorial about it! Are you ready?
- Lay your fabric out flat on a table
- Fold two sides of your fabric in towards the center, leaving about 5″ in the middle for the back of your neck.
- Sew a straight line across the top, shoulder seam, leaving a hole about 8″ on either side for your arms to go through
Optional: Hem the rough edges if you’d like
Isn’t that just so easy! Trim the bottom of your fabric to shorten or lengthen it depending on what you prefer. This is probably my favorite kimono tutorial when you’re in a hurry or want a sleeveless, summery piece. For a kimono with a sleeve, check out this kimono robe tutorial or this Free People inspired one.
As always, thank you soooooo much for reading my little projects! Creative Fashion Blog is growing pretty quickly now and I really couldn’t be more excited! If you liked this project, please share it with your friends!
