Today’s project is a travel necessity that most of us don’t have on hand. It takes up almost zero space in your luggage, protects your makeup brushes during transit, and costs next to nothing to make. The thing you’ll wish you had before your next trip is a roll-up DIY makeup brush holder.
The difference between that and a regular cosmetic bag/toiletry pouch? I’m glad you asked! A standard toiletry pouch is excellent for storing your foundation, hair pins, face wash, etc. but can actually damage your makeup brushes. When I travel, I like to keep all my toiletries in a DIY Magnetic Bag Organizer or even the Simple Printable Clutch DIY.
To bring your makeup brushes anywhere, you really should have a way to transport them that won’t fray and damage their delicate bristles. This roll up DIY makeup brush holder does just that.
So instead of buying a generic one at the store that hopefully fits the collection you have, let’s make our own custom one shall we? Today’s tutorial is so quick and easy. You can whip this DIY Makeup Brush Holder in less than 30 minutes. Are you ready?

How To Make A DIY Makeup Brush Holder
Start out by laying your fabric out on a table. Fold the top third down.
Now, cut small, 1″ – 1/2″ slices in your fabric. I put my makeup brushes into the hole and then use their own height and width to decide where to cut the second slit in my fabric. To hold each brush in place, you’ll just slide it inside one slit and the end of the brush out the other.
If you have a Rotary Cutter, this can be extra handy since it creates perfectly smooth cuts.
If you have a lot of makeup brushes, you can cut some slices closer together in between the wider cuts to maintain the durability of your suede and fit more brushes inside.
The last and final step is to sew two leather strips at the end of one side. You can use wither a hand needle or a basic sewing machine to do this step.
To use this DIY makeup brush holder, slide your brushes into the slices you’ve created and fold the top third of your suede carefully over your brushes to protect their bristles. Then, start rolling from the opposite side of your leather straps.
When you are done rolling, wrap the leather strips around your new case in opposite directions and then tie to secure. Your new DIY makeup brush holder shouldn’t come undone, will keep your brushes safe and secure, and is easy to make and gift.
