Is it just me, or does summer tend to sneak up on you too?
The warm weather and swimsuit-season always surprises me so this year, I’m starting to work out extra hard a few months early. That’s right… this year, I’m actually going to be prepared! This leads me to this week’s refashion tutorial….
While hitting the gym in a basic t-shirt can be incredibly comfortable, it’s a lot easier to actually get to the gym when you have new clothes to wear… even if they aren’t technically new. That’s where this week’s t-shirt refashion comes in. Pair this woven t shirt with a fun, strappy sports bra for a more interesting look…. or style it however else you want. It’s your shirt after all.
This t-shirt refashion looks complicated but is surprisingly easy to do. I even included a handy little DIY video for you to follow along. When you are done, you’ll be ready to weave details in your leggings, hoodies, and more. It’s all the same technique so don’t be afraid to mix it up a bit and get creative!
Supplies:
- A basic t-shirt
- Tailors Chalk
- Grid Ruler
- Scissors
- Piece Of Cardboard
- Hand Needle & Thread
How to Weave A T Shirt:
Start by laying your t-shirt flat on a table. Trim the neck binding so you have raw edges around the neckline.
Measure to find the bottom-center of your shirt. Stick a pin in it to mark and use your tailor’s chalk to create 2 lines up in a triangular shape to the neckline.
From there, measure and mark 1″ lines all the way down your t-shirt.
Cut along the marked horizontal lines and watch the video below to learn to weave the strips together.
Now Weave The Strips Together! Watch The Tutorial Below.
After your t-shirt is complete, it’s time to try it on and see how it looks!
I love the detail and unexpected texture this basic weave adds to an other-wise basic t-shirt refashion. Once you have the technique down, it’s fun to experiment with leggings and other basics to give them some sexy details.
Thank you so much for reading this little t-shirt refashion! As always, if you have any questions along the way, please let me know in the comments below and I’d love to help!
