I know I’m not alone when I say, I absolutely love Lulu Lemon, but I hate paying the high price tag. In today’s refashion tutorial, we’ll be creating this Lulu Lemon knockoff via this DIY workout tank from a sports bra you already have.
This super-simple project takes less than an hour to complete and will completely transform your workout wardrobe. It pairs perfectly with my DIY Jogger tutorial if you want to make a full athletic outfit for less than $5.
I love the draped design of this DIY workout tank and how it still shows off any detail your sports bra has in the back. This project is perfect for the beginner and can even be sewn by hand if you don’t have access to a regular sewing machine. Just in case you are looking for a regular sewing machine, this one is on sale for under $100 on Amazon right now.
My supply lists are shoppable for your convenience! Snag everything you need to complete this tutorial via the aff. links below without adding extra errands to your day.

How To Make A DIY Workout Tank
Start out by folding your fabric in half. Then cut it so you are left with a square that measures 24″ wide and 21″ tall. It should open up to be 48″ wide and 21″ tall. Sew along one of the 21″ sides to create a wide tube.
Tip: If you’d like your DIY workout tank to be less draped, shorten the 24″ length. Lengthen it to create a more dramatic drape.
Next, use the seam you just made to mark the center back of your DIY workout tank. Then, pin the seam to the back of your sports bra.
Stretch your rectangular piece of fabric to find the opposite end (the center front) of the fabric and pin to the center front of your sports bra.
Pin on either side of your center-front and center-back pins and let the excess fabric fall on the sides to create the draped look.
Sew into place and then try your new shirt on! You should have a new, cute DIY workout tank that looks something like this:
