How to make a straw woven purse from a recycled decorative charging plates

Like so many of you guys, I absolutely love the look of all the woven purses in stores lately. A woven purse is perfectly casual, matches almost anything, and perfectly bohemian.

So why don’t we DIY one today?

Since weaving our own wicker fabrics would be too time consuming and technical, I thought up an easier alternative.

Why don’t  we make our DIY woven purse out of placemats!

How To Make A DIY Woven Purse

The first step in making a DIY woven purse is to stack your placemats on top of eachother. Next, thread some embroidery floss into your hand sewing needle. Begin sewing the placemats together.

Make sure the plates are securely fastened before attaching the pom pom trimming. Fold the first 1/2 raw edge of the trimming under to ensure it doesn’t unravel. Sew 3/4 around the edge of the placemats before folding the final 1/2″ under and securing in place. Use wide stitch lengths (about 1 centimeter) through both wicker placemats and the pom pom trimming. Then, flip the placemats over and repeat on the other side so your purse looks the same on either side.

Once the base of your bag is made, it’s time to add the purse closure. Use the pre-punched holes on either side and your embroidery needle to sew the closure into place on both sides of the wicker placemats.
