At the end of a long day, there is often nothing nicer than an indulgent salt bath. Unwinding in a warm tub with a candle and a glass of tea can make even the most hectic days feel more manageable. When our days get busy and schedules get over-booked, it becomes even more important to create a few simple self-care rituals to re-fill and refuel. That’s why I’m so excited to share this simple beauty recipe with you!
Once you see just how easy it is to whip up this Rose Salt Bath recipe, you’ll wonder why you haven’t been making this all along. Plus, after learning the natural benefits of regular salt baths, it will be even easier to make them a priority.
Natural Benefits of A Salt Bath
A salt bath is primarily made up of Epsom Salt, which breaks down into magnesium and sulfate in your bath water. Relaxing in a warm salt bath allows your body to soak in all the natural benefits from the salt and leaves you feeling less achy, more relaxed, and has several surprising benefits.
Believe it or not, 80% of the population doesn’t consume enough Magnesium. The more I learn about Magnesium, the more I make getting more of it a priority. Taking a chewable pill before bed helps you sleep better and is even shown to reduce acne and stress levels. Here’s how magnesium affects your body:
You kidneys release magnesium when cortisol is present inside your body, supressing the nasty hormone. This is how increasing the amount of magnesium you consume helps your body manage stress and anxiety. The effects then move on to work from your inside out and help prevent and treat stress related acne.
For hundreds of years, people have used salt baths to relive symptoms like arthritis pain and swelling, muscle soreness, bruises and sprains, ingrown toenails, Fibromyalgia, Insomnia, Psoriasis, and even sunburn.
I feel like so often it’s easier than we think to just simplify our surroundings and routine, look to natural remedies, and even make those remedies and rituals feel decadent and indulgent. In my opinion, this rose salt bath recipe is just an example of that.
How To Make Your Own Rose Salt Bath
A huge aspect that makes is salt bath so indulgent is the fresh dried flowers in this recipe. While you can find some in natural food stores, I prefer to make my own after a bouquet has died. To make your own dried flowers, start out by buyig a fresh, beautiful bouquet that makes you feel incredible. Dislay it in your house and enjoy it as long as you can. Then, after the flowers have begun to wilt and it’s more depressing than beautful, hang the flowers upside down by a string or set them in a cupboard to continue drying. You can toss the unused portion of the bouquet at this point.
Make sure your petals are completly dry and brittle before starting this recipe. You want them to crack and fall apart when you squeeze them. Tear your petals into small pieces before you set them aside.
Next, gather the rest of your ingredients. Just like my other beauty recipes, each ingredient has a valuable purpose for being included. That’s the beauty of homemade right? No fillers!
Rose Salt Bath Ingredients
1 cup Epsom Salt
1/2 Cup Dried Rose Petals
1/3 Cup Pink Himalayan Salt
10 drops Rose Essential Oil
Pour and mix all of your ingredients into a bowl and stir. The petals will likely stay at the top for awhile but gradually mix equally. If there are any large petal pieces in your salt bath, just remove them, tear the petal more, and mix again.
To store, pour the mixture in a glass container with a tight lid and keep away from natural sunlight. Light can dim the vibrant color of your roses over time.
