Today I’m so excited to share one of my very first printable clothing patterns! I’m so grateful AllFreeSewing picked it up and featured this shift dress pattern on their website HERE.
The shift dress is a simple, straight-cut dress that became popular in the 1960s. It was a departure from the fitted and structured styles of the previous decades and was embraced as a symbol of the youth-oriented, free-spirited counterculture of the era. This simple dress style was famously worn by style icons such as Audrey Hepburn, Jackie Kennedy, and Twiggy. It works for basically all body types. Today, the shift dress remains a timeless and versatile piece in many women’s wardrobes, often updated with modern touches while still retaining its classic shape. Which I decided to do my own ruffly version of!
This little spring shift dress makes me so proud because I dreamed it up from start to finish, and then was also able to convert that pattern to a simple pdf form so you can print it off from any standard printer at home. All you need for this free sewing pattern is that printer, a sewing machine, and basic sewing supplies. It is the ideal first project for the beginner sewist learning the basics of dressmaking!
As a creative person (and not necessarily a techy person) learning the new software to create this shift dress pattern for you was all-consuming for a little bit. However, I’m so glad I did and am even more excited to make designs for you in the future. What should we create together next?
